An unfortunate Mawlid Celebration : Zakzaky error

Zakzaky and his people made a huge mistake. They confronted the army at the worst possible place and time in Nigeria.
1. The convoy was that of their battle tested, battle ready oga

2. Some of the main muscles of the military are resident in Kaduna State ( Depot, Jaji, NDA, NAF Base, 1st Div, Police College sef)

3. They had no permission to block the road and they had no business stopping the COAS from attending the passing out of soldiers

4. They had no business resisting Buratai ‘s negotiations

5. They shouldn’t have thrown anything if they are a peaceful people

6. What were they carrying weapons for, if it was a peaceful procession?

7. This is Boko Haram era, the soldiers will not know the difference. It could well be an ambush disguised within the Shiite procession. Their reactions can be understandable to a point.

8. Other religious groups block the way too but not by refusing to leave or carrying weapons but by sheer number and traffic gridlock
What the army is yet to explain:
1. Does your rule of engagement allow you to fire live ammunition at a stone throwing crowd?

2. Was there any gun in sight carried by these Shiite boys?

3. Were the women and children shooting at you?

4. Did attack come from the houses you raided and destroyed?

5. What informed a second day raid? Why didn’t the matter stop at the first day?

6. Was the gunfire one way or two way?

7. What happened to good old arrest and prosecution?

8. What was shot at the COAS?

9. When will at least some of the soldiers start wearing bodycams to let us appreciate what happened and why they resorted to the use of lethal force?

10. Was there a demolition order on the house you guys demolished? If yes, since when did the army start executing that kind of order instead of the civil works people?

In short, the army went extremely too far
Meanwhile, the Shiite official news outlet, Press TV should stop their funny lies. The Shiite station is known for exaggerating figures of casualties especially when Shiites are involved. The hospital where they took dead bodies to recorded about 60 dead persons and 28 injured, Zakzaky and his TV station has been reporting 800! I trowey salute o. You see, one dead person is enough for an outrage, these bloated figures flying around will not improve the outrage level for any sane person. In fact, when people get to know you cooked the figures, the outrage would be against you. Capisce?
If the video of people robbing the dead is true, then it underscores the level of poverty in the land. And I don’t mean poverty of wealth alone. Poverty of ideas, conscience, dignity, shame, sense, and empathy. The hearts have become frozen in the cold of calculated, collective mistreatment. I never thought I would witness humans robbing freshly-killed humans. Those belong in the same class as vultures and hyenas. In fact, they are lower in my estimation than those animals.

TIMP

Two weeks ago, an idea struck me; to embark on reading the tafseer of the entire Quran. Fourteen people committed to the project within a week. Today is the second week and we have only read the tafseer of Suratul Fatihah (1-3). The journey is going to be long, no doubt but it is worth the effort, insha Allah.

My fervent prayer is for the success of the project and all its participants in this life and the next. May all we learn be of immense benefit to us in this world and the next.

E Ku President Scarcity O!

With all the current problems we are going through at the hands of Jonathan only a few days to his exit, take a deep breath, close your eyes and imagine another four years of the man in office. Scary picture, yeah? I thought so too.

Something akin to seeing a really scary horror film in 3D alone at night with Dolby surround sound. Your skin creeps and your heart beats a staccato of frenzied tunes and you start to scream but terror chokes the sound before you make it.
When you come to, you realise you are sweating profusely and your armpits look like they were dunked in a bucket of sweat. You look around wild eyed and wide eyed and realise you were only imagining it and Buhari is taking over on Friday, insha Allah. At least that is something to hope for away from thoughts of these hopeless thieves. Allah ya kai mu lafiya.

Now that I have stirred your interest, abeg where I fit get petrol buy for Abuja without spending my entire salary in a week? Abeg! Pls inbox any insight

Shaking Saints and Sinners

I don’t know why some Muslims think Buhari came to implement Shariah or that he is a cleric or a very religious person. All pictures of him with his wife and other women tell us a different story.

There are two extremists with regard to the comments on this picture. The first are those shouting themselves hoarse on seeing Buhari shaking a woman. But this is not the first woman he would shake. I think they are mistaking his honesty and frugality for Islamic ascetism and piety. Yes, that is what is expected of a pious Muslim but honesty and frugality are not exclusive preserves of the Muslim. He is just like you and I sinning every single day. That he sins differently from you doesn’t make you better than him.
The second are people like Pius Adesanmi who think anyone who points out that what Buhari did is against his professed religion must be either Boko Haram or ISIS. That is rather daft coming from a so called professor. He equated saying shaking a woman is haraam with terrorism and extremism.
I could excuse the ignoramus who does not understand the words he used but it is irresponsible to use words of that weight when you know better and he is not excused. It seems some people’s professorship masks their ignorance in other fields. Another specimen is Wole Soyinka.
What Adesanmi got right was chiding those who think because of the incident, Buhari would go to hell or those who think they are better than the General.
A supposedly more religious Aregbesola has been openly shaking ladies in and out of Osun state without this sort of furore. Incidentally, Obasanjo respected the Islamic injunction of a Muslim lady not shaking a non Mahram each time he met Turai and Amina Sambo. I also know that El Rufai and Emir Sanusi are called Mallam as a way of showing they are religious people but they shake women. That is not an endorsement of the act but evidence of their being sons of Adam. They err and sin just like me and they repent just like me.
There is nothing extremist in following any of Allaah’s injunctions, the real extremists are those going beyond the injunction and those who are lax and condemn the observers of such injunctions. So, if a Muslim drinks alcohol and I point out that it is haraam, I am not an extremist. Anyone who says it is haraam for alcohol to spill on me is an extremist. Anyone who says I need to renew my ablution on account of the spilt drink is extremist. Anyone who says I am extremist not to drink alcohol is extremist and an unserious Muslim.
As long as you do not go outside the clear rulings of your faith you are not extremist. Why we call Boko Haram extremist is due to their excesses. They are mere murdering criminals.

Real vampires in South America

Vampires have captivated our imagination for centuries. Despite limited (and fairly predictable) on-screen deaths by stake, sunlight, or a splash of holy water, the sci-fi/horror genre is still going strong (if you ignore the recent Twilight ‘saga’). Old school classics such as The Lost Boys and Bram Stoker’s Dracula are still as watchable today as […]

The Shame Called Heteropaternal Superfecundation

I just listened to the case of a woman who gave birth to twins who are from two different fathers. Obviously she slept with two different men in two days and somehow the two men’s seeds fertilised her about the same time.

The woman only realised she had the two girls from two different fathers and wants child support for the products of immorality. Somehow, many people are having their sense of outrage and decency slowly deadened with so many in-your-face atrocities featured on all media outlets.

The way the presenter causally mentioned the matter and asked for people’s opinions on the shameful matter made me ponder over our terrible state as inhabitants of this planet under God Almighty. We behave as if we owe Him no duty anymore.

People no longer get furious at the rape of minors as young as 2 years or even younger. There has been too many cases of those. Reports of baby factories in eastern Nigeria have become two for one naira.

The press has even managed to eliminate shock from our list of emotions when we hear about billions of dollars, not naira, growing wings under just one minister. In fact just in  one parastatal under the ministry in question. We are talking about trillions in theft now and all we do is express diluted outrage like making a second cup of tea from the same teabag.

For those who farm out their kids to schools outside the country, I pity them. If you take a hundred cases, only about ten return intact. If it’s a boy, he is more likely to have started drugs and or booze and fornication. If it is a girl, you can add prostitution to the list.

“I trust my kid”, I can almost hear you say. Well, the rest also thought so but many parents don’t understand peer pressure. After a child has learnt to be independent of the parents, the most important thing  in his life is the approval of his peers. This gets so bad that even the most well brought up ones succumb to the pressure.

Vigilance and patience are crucial to making your kids your friends. If you always express shock at things they did or their friends did that they describe to you, they learn to hold back information. At the age kids enter higher institutions these days, they need us to be their counsel and confidant so that we can help them pass through the difficult phase successfully.

That way, we don’t end up with illegitimate children from confused young adults who had no business copulating to begin with

Death and our attitude to it

The imam of the National Mosque passed away yesterday and he was buried this morning. I observed the way many at the funeral rites behaved. Right from the National Mosque, a lot of people thought it was an occasion to snap pictures.

Others thought it was an opportunity to network and fraternise. Few used the occasion to do what deaths should make us do; reflecting on our lives and thinking of how we will leave the stage one day and in what condition we wish to leave.

At the Apo graveyard, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a Selfie stick in the air snapping away at the burial. IPads and whatever else pads competed to record the burial too.

The worst was when some men started shouting and arguing over the interment procedures. It was really saddening and disgusting. Then some people who should know started some bid’ah prayers like teaching the late imam what to say when the angels of Allah start asking him questions in his grave. This is a common error one witnesses at burials these days.

A friend and I reflected over the conduct of people before, during and after funerals. He remarked that there seems to be a heightened sense of piety during funerals that dissolves slowly but surely the instant the burial ends. We begin to forget that the one we just buried could have been any of us.

The worst of people I believe, is one who could still think of murdering another in the graveyard. How else do you explain the serious security searches at the graveyard? I kept thinking aloud that anybody who could be at the cemetery to murder or cause mayhem must be the senior brother of Ash Shaytaan. Shaytaan ought to show that one some respect. They are the likes of those to whom Ash Shaytaan says, “Fear Allah”
