The Literate But Uneducated Jester

Punch Newspaper – Why do you always use ‘big grammar’?

Honourable Patrick Obahigbon– “I am not really consensus ad idem with those who opine that my idiolect is advertently obfuscative. No no no, it’s just that I am in my elements when the colloquy has to do with the pax nigeriana of our dreams and one necessarily needs to fumigation against the alcibiadian modus vivendi of our prebendal political class.”

Patrick-Obahiagbon-BellaNaija

Yet the man complained that his English result was withheld by WAEC twice. The sad part is that some people think that the man is highly educated because of this manner of speaking. The truth is that this actually shows poor education. Not only is he grossly verbose but he also does not know how to pronounce many of the words correctly or when to use them.
Ironically, he seems to revel in the noise people make when he talks that way.

On AIT Covering Buhari

Buhari-2015-BN-3 AIT logo 2
This is better! What Buhari must do is to be different and change what people have turned leadership into. He has to show that he is better than barring any reporter.
Barring AIT reporters is what we would expect a vindictive revenge-seeking person like Jonathan would do. Yes, he would have succeeded in punishing those who used their position as a media outlet to malign him but then he would not have taught us about bettering the conduct of your opponents and making them your teacher.
He would not teach that statesmen take a lot of rubbish and make them into fertilisers that nurture love, respect and higher morals. He would have lost the opportunity to tell us that yesterday’s enemies could be today’s bosom friends. Just look at Oyinlola who almost got Aregbesola murdered during his time in power; he was at Aregbesola’s second term campaign as a friend.
Look at Abati and Femi Fani Kayode who both outdid one another to insult Jonathan before they got the “Come and Chop” invitation; they became his most ardent defenders even when they knew they were defending nonsense and its ingredients.
Those saying Buhari has the right to bar the AIT reporter are right. It is like the right to fart in public; you are allowed to do it but it is more decent not to. What I am saying is that to move Nigeria forward (and by that I mean everyone), our leaders have to climb and stand on a higher moral ground than their opponents, and it starts with Buhari learning let petty things like this one go.

Those Jokes We Share So Easily

Beware of posting stories that are not true and calling them jokes. Muslims are allowed to joke but we are not allowed to joke with lies.

Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said, “Woe unto him, woe unto him, woe unto him that tells people what is not true to make them laugh”

There are so many of these flying around the social media space now and unfortunately Muslims have joined the bandwagon.

You will stop it not because there is anyone who will arrest you but because you know that there is Someone to Whom you will account when you die

AIT and Buhari

I beg to differ from my good friend and brother here. AIT does not deserve fair treatment since they were unfair to Buhari too. That is not why Buhari should allow them cover his activities. He should do so because that is the mature thing to do. He is the president elect and should not choose which medium to allow to cover his activities, personal feelings notwithstanding.

Take a second look at the way Mandela handled the presidential guards he inherited from Botha. These were people who physically and emotionally attacked the Madiba, he kept them to protect him. Some were in the process of packing their stuff out of the presidential offices assuming that Mandela would surely revenge. Instead he took the higher moral ground and told them he intended to keep anyone who was ready to work with him.

Buhari would be within his rights to bar them from coming anywhere near him but all he would be is a vengeful old man who could not show he could tolerate personal insults. Our elders say “aatan l’agbalagba, agba maa ngba nkan m’ora ni”. Loosely translated as ‘the elderly are like a refuse heap, they absorb a lot of insults ‘.

It is enough that Allah has shamed AIT by making them swallow their own vomit. It is enough that the attacks were not as intended but became a boost for Buhari’s image as many read through the vicious lies and many became supporters of Buhari on account of it.

AIT might be of real use to the Buhari administration when it takes off. I have learnt not to shut doors behind me in relating with people, even those who wronged me.

THE ROVING TRAVELLER

There are many ways to become famous. The walking man who vowed to trek from Lagos to Abuja if Buhari won the elections has arrived in Abuja today. There is a huge crowd causing traffic jam just to catch a glimpse of him. Media houses are scrambling to televise him and newspaper reporters are taking pictures of him. The funny thing is that if someone else tries to do copy and paste, he may never get the same response from people

THE MASQUERADE AND HIS FALL

Jonathan did well by conceding defeat. He could have done a Gbagbo or followed in the footsteps of Remi Fani Kayode of the old Western Region. He could have brought upon us another civil war by acting in sync with Orubebe, whose name is now a synonym for brainless and childish interruptions of a serious and important event or process. GEJ was bold for once not to do these. No matter what, he has smuggled his name into the records as the first incumbent in our history as a nation to hand over to an opposition candidate.

Nevertheless, he should not try to insult our intelligence or memory by claiming he created an enabling environment for Buhari’s victory to be possible. He did not! In fact, he and his party henchmen did all they could to derail the process and deny Buhari victory.

They started with hate videos and adverts which brought death wish adverts into our country’s political toolbox, they arrested opposition people and used the military to rig elections in Osun. Jonathan recognised the man who won 16 votes instead of the one who won 19 votes. In Ekiti, his man, Fayose attacked a sitting High court judge and recognised the impeachment of the speaker by less than a third of the House of Assembly without apologies. He also hounded the remaining 19 lawmakers out of town.

Jonathan’s people in the Niger Delta like Asari Dokubo threatened to make Nigeria history if Jonathan is not re-elected. Those words are treasonable offences but since he endorsed them and they were made in his favour, he did not act or even refute them.

The IG wanted to remove Tambuwal because he defected to APC…the list is very long. These were acts calculated to subvert the process of choosing leaders in an atmosphere of peace and mutual respect. His foul mouthed wife also helped worsen things without a rebuke or refutation from him.

This was the same president who sponsored ethnic militias to carry weapons and violently demand the removal of Jega from office. The same president whose spokesman and party vehemently opposed the rigging reducing Card Readers; who postponed elections to buy time when it was clear he would lose. A man who bribed all the bribables to hold on to power but was removed by God Himself.

As one of my brothers expressed it, the performing masquerade slipped and fell but he said it was just another part of the performance. Jonathan lost the election not because he did not use all the power he had to win, it was in spite of all the power he used to win.

There was nothing free or fair about the last elections; there was bloodshed and there was harassment and intimidation. We cannot forget or wish the memory away. Jonathan should stop saying he kept his promise of a free and fair election. He should not ask PDP to celebrate some sort of success they were supposed have had because Buhari won against there every machinations and calculations. He should thank Nigerians for being so magnanimous with him and his party of marauders and for crediting him with conceding to Buhari but he should stop this new attempt to rewrite history by claiming Buhari won because he created an enabling environment. Maybe, just maybe history will be kind to his memory one day.

Political Calculations

Adesina Tiamiyu on the spot:

Baba Ricardo,Delta is coming with 1,4 million votes but even if they bring their cooked 1.9 million,Buhari still cancel them out. The results are ready. Funny enough, the SS n SE are not even smart with their rigging. No void votes,no cancellation even when the whole world know there was no such people come out to vote. Delta n Rivers are examples of how not to rig. A 3 man panel has been set up to examine the results from Rivers. It cant stand.

Mallam Moyo Jaji on the spot:

@Tiamiyu Adesina. The Rivers Polling Shenanigans shall stand. Not because the allegations were not true but because the same State Resident Electoral Commissioner that made the fictitious announcement that led to the protest, in the first instance, is the one to Head the 3-Man Panel. To some of us, this amounts Jega mocking them that despite their manipulations, votes from 3 States in the North will cancel out their padded figures. So nobody DIED in Rivers State after the Registration Exercice ? HABA ! Even among thieves, there is Honour !
